Bukom Banku and Napari bout set for October 3...

Bukom Banku and his challenger, Corporal John Napari, yesterday signed the contract for their WBA International Cruiserweight title bout slated for October 3 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The two boxers were ushered into the Accra Stadium by hordes of supporters, with those of Napari drowning Banku's fans with their cheers of dancing and drumming.

A representative of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Gifty Naa Darkoa Dodoo, said the GBA and the WBA were the sanctioning bodies of the bout and promised to give their seal of approval after the contract was signed.

Napari, nicknamed "The Beast", had a few harsh words for Banku's team, describing them as indisciplined.

"Banku always claims to be a cruiserweight but I have my doubts as he is always unable to make that weight for his fights. On the day of the official weigh-in, Ghanaians won't take his lame excuse and I will punish him in the ring," he added.

The champion, Banku, who now goes by the new moniker African Mayweather, challenged Napari to a winner- takes- all bout, adding that his opponent was a baby soldier.

"If you trust your abilities in the ring, let's make it a winner- takes-all; no clinching, pound for pound", Banku stressed.

"I am currently 90.8 kilogrammes so making the 90.7 kilogrammes will be easy.

"Your people are known for dancing and drumming, I will make you a baby soldier and you will regret stepping into the ring with me", Banku warned his opponent.

Emefa Adeti of McDon Promotions, organisers of the bout, said the undercards and financial packages of the boxers would be disclosed at a later date.
