Pregnant woman gives birth after boyfriend sets her on fíre...

A D.C.-area woman was able to find the strength to give birth after her boyfriend set her on fire.

According to NBC Washington, the police responded to calls of a fire in Prince George’s County late Friday morning, where Andrea Grinage was found with critical burns on her body.

She was also in labour.

She was quickly rushed to hospital where she gave birth to a baby girl seven weeks early.

“These are not the circumstances under which this baby was to be born,” Prince George’s County Police spokeswoman Jennifer Donelan said during a news conference.

Grinage, 31, identified her attacker as her boyfriend. She told authorities that he poured flammable liquid on her before lighting her on fire. He also threatened to hurt her other family members.

“She was very brave. We want her family to know how brave she was, suffering as badly as she was — critically burned, worried about her unborn child, dealing with those injuries and was able share that information with us so that we could get moving with our investigation and locate this person,” Donelan said during the conference.

We are glad to hear that Grinage and her newborn daughter are safe. Her boyfriend turned himself in to police in Washington, D.C., and is in custody. Charges are pending.
