At age 9, Rosemond Brown was already a hawker selling “Poloo” — a popular Ghanaian snack which is hard and crispy — on the streets of Maamfe in Aburi in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

As a result of her selling of “Poloo”, Rosemond Brown used to be called “Poloo” by her buyers and close friends. And because she is half “Akuapem”, she decided to use both “Akuapem Poloo” as her brand name.

Rosemond Alade Brown — who is half Ghanaian and half Togolese — was born to a Ghanaian mother, Maa Lydia Amponsah aka Lady Stone and Togolese father in Suhum in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Akuapem Poloo — who happens to be the only child of her mother — was raised by her palm wine tapper grandfather.

According to the mother of Akuapem Poloo, Maa Lydia Amponsah aka Lady Stone, her daughter was born a star:

“I always support her in everything she does whether good or bad am with her. I sometimes advise her not to go too hard on the internet. Akuapem Poloo twer.king on the internet is her choice and she needs to be happy in life,” she said.

Growing up as a kid, Poloo went through a lot of hardships by way of going to the farm with her palm wine tapper grandfather before she could make ends meet .

By the time she was 9 years old, Akuapem Poloo had already started selling Iced water, bread, and a Ghanaian snack popularly known as “Poloo” on the streets of Maamfe in Aburi in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Rosemond Alade Brown started her basic education at the Suhum Roman Catholic School. She continued to Ofori Payin school and later to Adonten Senior High School which is also located at Suhum.

She went on to study Public Relations in a media school in Accra after moving to the capital.

Rosemond Brown revealed in an interview she had her first sugar daddy at age 16 whilst she was in senior high school.

At age 24, Akuapem Poloo gave birth to her son, Mudasir Muhammed Yakubu, after she broke up with her first sugar daddy.

Akuapem Poloo in trouble for posting naked photo with son, sentenced to 90 days imprisonment

Akuapem Poloo had a brush with the law after she shared a naked photo of herself squatting in front of her son to celebrate his 7th birthday on June 30th, 2020.

Poloo claimed that she took that photo because she was naked when she gave birth to her son.

She was later invited by the Ghana Police (DOVVSU unit) after Child Rights International (CRI) — a non-profit organization in Ghana — petitioned the Director-General CID of the Ghana Police Service to investigate the photo in question.

The Child Rights International (CRI) at the time contended that what Akuapem Poloo did was a violation of the Welfare Principle of the Children’ ACT and abuse of the child’s right to privacy and dignity.

After months of her trial in court, Akuapem Poloo was on Friday, April 16th, 2021, sentenced to 90 days imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Judge Ms Christina Cann.

On Wednesday, April 21st, 2021, an Accra High Court granted Poloo GHc80,000 bail with two sureties to be justified.

The bail application was granted after Poloo’s lawyer, Andrews Kudzo Vortia on Monday, April 19th, 2021, filed a notice of appeal and application for bail against the actress’s 90 days custodial sentence.
